Big Almaty Lake

The lake that has absolutely different view every season and each one is incredibly stunning! Surrounded by mountains and giant Tien Shan firs, Big Almaty Lake is a natural masterpiece. It is located in 20 min drive south of Almaty up a gorge of Big Almaty. It is 2,511m above sea level. The lake is in Ile-Alatau National park. The mountains, Sovetov to the southeast, Ozyorny to the south and Turist to the southwest form a backdrop on all sides to the lake, producing some spectacular reflections, changing colour throughout the seasons. The lake is surrounded by many peaks, most popular of them: Big Almaty peak, Sovetov to the southeast, Ozyorny to the south and Turist. All peaks are around the 4,000 metres high, with a glacial water running down towards the lake.
